Land selection and preparation

Planting Dan Shen preferably choose sweet potatoes, corn and peanuts and other crops as the previous crop. After the harvest of the previous crop to prepare the land, the depth of plowing should be more than 30 cm. Combined with the preparation of the ground fertilizer, compost or stable fertilizer per mu about 2000 kg. Rake and level the land, make high or flat borders with a width of 1.3 meters and the length of the borders depends on the terrain.

Field management

a. Mid-tillage and weeding. Generally, when the seedlings start to emerge, check and find that the soil is caked or the mulch is thick and affects the emergence of the seedlings, the mulch should be removed in time to promote the emergence of the seedlings. The first time in May, when the seedlings are 10 cm to 12 cm high, the second time in June, and the third time in August.

b. Fertilization. During the growing period, combined with mid-tillage and weeding, fertilize 2 times one or three times, using 1000 kg-2000 kg of well-rotted manure, 10 kg-15 kg of calcium superphosphate or 25 kg-50 kg of cake fertilizer per mu.

c. Drainage. Pay attention to drainage during the rainy season. If the soil is dry during the emergence and seedling stage, irrigate or water in time.

d. Pick buds. Except for plants left as seeds, buds must be removed in stages to facilitate root growth.

Harvesting and processing

Dan Shen can be collected in the following year of growth. The harvesting time is mid-December when the above-ground parts wither or the following spring before sprouting. First, remove the above-ground stems and leaves, and make a deep trench at one end of the border to expose the roots of ginseng. Dig out the intact roots along the border to prevent breaking. After digging, cut off the residual stems. If you need a strip of ginseng, cut the root strip with a diameter of 0.8 cm or more at the mother root, straighten the strip, expose it to the sun, turn it from time to time, and when it is 70% or 80% dry, tie it into small handfuls, then expose it to the sun until it is dry, and box it to become "strip of ginseng". If not divided into coarse and fine. After drying and removing the mixture, put it into sacks, then it is called unified salvia.
