A teacher is a person who teaches students knowledge and skills. 老师 [lǎo shī] is the Mandarin word for “teacher”. In China, we put the family name in front of the word “teacher”. For example, Mr. Liu or teacher Liu is translated into Chinese as 刘老师 [liú lǎo shī]. For example:
liú lǎo shī shì wǒ de yǔ wén lǎo shī。
Mr. Liu is my Chinese teacher.
Teacher is also called 教师 [jiào shī] in Chinese. It is more formal than 老师 [lǎo shī]. 教师节 [jiào shī jié] – Teachers' Day. It’s on September 10th. For example:
