Growth environment of Qian Shi
Qian Shi likes warm, sunny, not hardy nor drought-resistant. The suitable temperature for growth is 20-30℃, and the water depth is 30-90cm. It is suitable for ponds, reservoirs, lakes, and large lakes where the water surface is not wide, the water flow is small, the water source is sufficient, the water level can be adjusted, and it is easy to drain and irrigate. Requires fertile soil with a lot of organic matter. Propagated by seed.
How to reproduce Qian Shi?
Qian Shi can be direct seeding or seedling transplanting. Direct sowing, the method is simple, labor-saving, and suitable for large-scale production and deep-water lake planting, but the yield is low; seedling transplanting, is more labor-intensive, and not suitable for planting in large areas of deep water, but the yield is higher.
The spring sowing of gorgonians is sown from mid-March to early April, with a sowing amount of 1.5-3 kg per 667 square meters. The sowing method is as follows.
a. Release water for spot sowing. Put the pond water dry or keep the shallow water level, dig holes at a distance of 2.5 meters square, sow 2-3 seeds in each hole, cover the soil with 1-1.5 cm, and irrigate to the proper water level after sowing, so that the seedlings emerge neatly.
b. Mud dough spot sowing. The water level is deeper than 1 m in the lake area, the water level is not easy to lower or due to the lack of water, it is difficult to irrigate after releasing water because the water depth is not easy to sow, the seeds are easy to drift after sowing. Can use mud group spot sowing. Then use wet clay will be 3-4 seeds wrapped into a ball, according to the line plant distance of about 2.5 meters square, the clay is grouped one by one on the near water surface gently into the water. The thin density of planting should vary according to the fatness of the lake and pond mud.
c. Bamboo tube seeding. Use the long bamboo tube hit through, according to the row plant spacing of 2.5 meters, insert the bamboo tube into the mud, put 4-5 seeds from the upper mouth, the seeds sink to the bottom, then use a thin stick, inserted into the tube, stirred in the mud, so that the seeds mixed into the mud.
d. After sowing, the water level is maintained at 60-100 cm, and seedlings can emerge in late April. Generally, after one year of planting, each year there are mature seeds naturally scattered in the water, and the next year will be able to germinate and grow naturally, generally do not need to sow again.
Types of Qian Shi
Qian Shi is the only species under the genus Gorgonian, and there are southern and northern gorgonians. North gravy, also known as thorny gravy, is wild and cultivated, mainly produced in Shandong, northern Anhui, and northern Jiangsu, slightly inferior in texture to south gravy, above-ground organs are densely rigid thorns, more difficult to harvest, thin outer seed coat, rough surface, gray-green or black-brown, smaller seeds, seed kernels nearly round, japonica, medium quality, but more adaptable. Gorgonians are classified by flower color, and there are three common types of southern gorgonians with purple flowers, white flowers, and red flowers, and two common types of northern gorgonians with purple flowers and red flowers. However, southern gravy is mainly used for food and export, while the northern gravy is mainly used for medicinal purposes.
