What is Huang Qin?

Huang Qin, which is also called

Growth environment of Huang Qin

Huangqin, a perennial herb, grows wild in sunny and drier places such as mountain tops, hillsides, forest edges, and roadsides. It likes warmth and is resistant to severe cold. It grows on sunny grassy slopes at an altitude of 60-1300 (1700-2000) meters. The underground part of an adult plant can still survive the winter safely at a low temperature of -35°C, and it will not die at a high temperature of 35°C, but it cannot withstand continuous high temperature weather above 40°C. Tolerant to drought and fear of waterlogging, accumulated water or too much rain in the ground, poor growth, and severe root rot and death. Poorly drained land is not suitable for planting. The soil is loamy and sandy loam, and the pH is preferably neutral and slightly alkaline. Continuous cropping is avoided.
Wild Huangqin is mainly distributed in the central and eastern parts of Inner Mongolia and most of the three northeastern provinces, Chengde, Hebei, and Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. It is one of the main producing areas of wild Chinese medicinal materials in northern China. Cultivated Huangqin is mainly distributed in the four major production areas of Shandong, Shanxi, Shaanxi and Gansu.
