Leaf blade ovate or elliptic, 4-8 cm long, 2.5-5 cm wide, apex caudate, base broadly cuneate to rounded, leaf margins often with small acute serrations, gray-green, pubescent on both surfaces when young, gradually deciduous as it grows, or pubescent only between the axils of the veins below; petiole 1-2 cm long, hairy when young, deciduous when old, often with glands.

Flowers solitary or sometimes 2 together in 1 bud, 2-2.5 cm in diameter, strongly scented, opening before the leaves; pedicel short, ca. 1-3 mm, often glabrous; calyx usually reddish-brown, but in some species, it is green or greenish-purple; calyx tube broadly campanulate, glabrous or sometimes pubescent; sepals ovate or suborbicular, apex rounded; petals obovate, white to pink; stamens short or slightly longer than petals; ovary densely pilose, style shorter or slightly longer than stamens.

Fruit subglobose, 2-3 cm in diameter, yellow or greenish-white, pilose, sour-tasting; pulp and kernel pasted; kernel ellipsoid, apically rounded with a small protruding tip, base attenuated into a cuneate shape, sides slightly compressed, ventral ribs slightly obtuse, with obvious longitudinal grooves on both ventral and dorsal ribs, surface with foveolate pores.
